Soil Solver Compost Plus Minerals
Compost that changes what the sand is.
A fully matured, low-phosphate compost blended with clay, silt and rock and ore minerals, in a 25 litre bag weighing 15kg. The pack puts the phosphorus content between 0.33 and 0.47 per cent and claims up to four times the nutrients of ordinary compost. Beds take 2 to 5 litres per square metre, lawns 3 to 5.

What Soil Solver Compost Plus Minerals suits
What can you use Soil Solver Compost Plus Minerals for?
New beds on Perth sand
Worked into the top 20cm at 2 to 5 litres per square metre. This is where it does the most, because you are changing the soil before anything is planted in it.
Beds cropped hard
A vegetable bed that has been producing for a few seasons has had the minerals taken out of it. This puts them back rather than just adding nitrogen.
Lawns
Three to five litres per square metre, or roughly one bag per 10 square metres. Same product, slightly heavier rate.
Pots, at 10% of the volume
A tenth of the pot volume, repeated every three months. It is a component of the mix rather than the mix itself.
How much do you need?
Two to five litres a square metre
Soil Solver publish a rate for each situation, and they are all by volume rather than weight. Garden beds take 2 to 5 litres per square metre worked into the top 20cm; lawns take 3 to 5.
The bag is 25 litres, so a lawn works out at roughly one bag per 10 square metres. Beds go further, depending how rich you are building them.
| Where | Rate | What a 25L bag does |
|---|---|---|
| Garden beds | 2 to 5 L per m² | Five to twelve square metres, worked into the top 20cm. |
| Lawns | 3 to 5 L per m² | About 10m² — roughly one bag per ten square metres. |
| Pots | 10% of the pot volume | Repeated every three months. |
| Clay soils | 5 L per m², after liming | 500g to 1kg of lime per m² first. |
Marked a two person lift — 15kg in 25 litres. Wear gloves, keep it moist, avoid the dust and wash your hands afterwards.
Soil Solver Compost Plus Minerals in Perth
Why clay in a bag makes sense here
The Swan Coastal Plain is sand, and sand has almost no capacity to hold either water or nutrient. Everything you add leaches, which is why a Perth bed can be fed in autumn and hungry again by spring, and why watering it more rarely helps for long.
Clay and silt are what fix that, and they are what this bag has in it that a straight compost does not. Worked into the top 20cm they give the sand something to hold onto with, so the next feed and the next watering both stay where the roots are. The pack's low phosphorus — 0.33 to 0.47 per cent — also makes it far safer than a manure around banksias, grevilleas and the other natives that phosphate damages.
Why Soil Solver Compost Plus Minerals
Why choose Soil Solver Compost Plus Minerals?
The phosphorus figure is printed
Between 0.33 and 0.47 per cent, on the bag. That is a real number rather than the word "low", and it is the number that matters if there are natives in the garden.
Clay and silt, not just compost
The mineral fraction is what gives sand something to hold nutrient and water with. Compost alone breaks down and leaves; clay does not.
Up to four times the nutrients
Soil Solver's claim, printed on the pack, against ordinary compost. The mineral boost is where it comes from.
Made in Western Australia
For Western Australian sand, which is not a coincidence. The bag calls it the professional landscapers choice.

Using Soil Solver Compost Plus Minerals
How to use Soil Solver Compost Plus Minerals
Beds: 2 to 5 litres per square metre
Worked into the top 20cm rather than left on the surface. The mineral fraction has to be IN the sand to do anything, which is the difference between this and a mulch.
Lawns: 3 to 5 litres per square metre
Roughly one bag per 10 square metres. Spread and watered in, the same as any topdressing.
Pots and clay soils have their own rates
In pots, about 10 per cent of the pot volume, repeated every three months. On clay, 5 litres per square metre after 500g to 1kg per square metre of lime.
Handle it damp
The bag carries the standard warning: wear gloves, keep the product moist, avoid breathing the dust, and wash your hands after use. And it is marked a two person lift at 15kg.
When to choose something else
When it is the wrong product
- It is a two person lift. The bag is marked that way and it is 15kg in 25 litres — denser than a compost bag looks.
- You may find balls of the mineral component in a bag that has been stored a while. They are not rocks and they are not a fault — they dissolve.
- The pack does not print an NPK analysis, only the phosphorus range. If you need full numbers, ask us and we will get what Soil Solver publish rather than estimate them.
- It has to be worked in, not spread on top. On the surface the compost will do something and the clay and silt will do nothing.
- Wear gloves, keep the product moist, avoid breathing the dust, and wash your hands after use.
