Bibra Lake Soils

About us

A soil yard, not a garden centre

We have been blending and loading out of one yard on 222 Barrington St since 2006. 85 named products, open seven days, and somebody at the counter has loaded whatever you are asking about more than once this week.

The company behind the yard has been registered at Bibra Lake since 2006, first as Soils Ain't Soils Bibra Lake and under the Bibra Lake Soils name since 2010. That is the public record rather than a story we have told about ourselves — you can look it up on ABN 40 119 516 255.

What we actually do

We know the range because we chose it

Almost everything here is made by somebody who does one thing properly and delivered to us by the truckload. We do blend our own Veggie Mix, and that is the only one — we would rather tell you that than take credit for a supplier’s work.

What we do bring is the choosing. Somebody decided which conditioner goes in that bay and which cement is worth the pallet space, and every product page on this site names the brand and the standard it is made to.

Our mulches are pasteurised and weed free, and the staff here are, in the yard’s own long-standing words, seasoned experts in soils, mulch, sands and aggregates. If we do not have what you are after, we will try to point you at who does.

Why people drive past three other yards

What you get here that you do not get everywhere

  • Sold by the metre, out of the bay

Soils, mulch, sand and stone go into the bays by the truckload. You buy the volume you need from a pile you can see and handle, not a number printed on a bag.

  • Pasteurised, weed free mulch

The yard's own long-standing claim about its mulch, and the reason a load of it does not turn into a weeding job six weeks later.

  • The whole job in one stop

Soils, mulch, sand, aggregate, stone, blocks, pavers, cement, bagged garden products and firewood. One yard, one trip, one invoice.

  • Free 2 hour trailer use

Borrow a trailer to get your load home. No charge and no bond, which is worth more than it sounds if you drive a hatchback.

  • Delivered seven days

Tipper or bulka bag, across Perth's southern suburbs, to the verge or round the back. Seven days, same as the yard.

  • We will send you elsewhere

In the yard's own words, if we do not have what you are after we will do our best to point you in the right direction. It costs us a sale and it is why people come back.

What stands behind it

The standards these products are made to

These are on the products themselves, not on a badge in the footer. Each one belongs to specific blends and the product pages say which.

  • AS 4419

The Australian Standard for soils for landscaping and garden use. The Landscape Mix we sell is produced to it.

    See Landscape Mix
  • AS 4454

The Australian Standard for composts, soil conditioners and mulches. The Soil Conditioner we sell complies with it.

    See Soil Conditioner
  • WALGA preferred

A WALGA preferred product, which is the buying panel Western Australian local governments work from.

Who you will meet

The counter is the whole service

There is no call centre and no order portal. You ring the yard, or you drive in, and you talk to whoever is on. Dan, Jim, Grant and the rest of the crew are named on the team page, and between them somebody here has loaded every product on this site.

It is worth using. Describe the bed, the lawn or the job rather than asking for a product by name — the answer is often a different mix, a smaller quantity, or a suggestion to come and look at two of them side by side before you commit.

Rusty is on the payroll in the loosest sense, and there is a second dog who is not. One or other of them is usually somewhere near the bagged stock.
