Stepping Stones Perth
Somewhere to put your feet.
Decorative stepping stones in seven designs — tree trunk rounds in natural and charcoal, a turtle, a love heart, a leaf, and left and right feet. They break up a lawn, mark a path through a garden bed, and give kids something to hop between.
They come as individual stones rather than by the metre, so how many you need is a question of spacing. Come and see them in the yard — they photograph smaller than they are.

How many stepping stones do you need?
Pace it out before you buy
A stepping stone path is spaced to a stride, not to a measurement. About 600mm from the centre of one stone to the centre of the next suits most people.
Walk the route at your own pace first and count where your feet land. It costs nothing and it is the only way to get a path that does not feel like hopscotch.
| Path length | Stones at 600mm centres | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| 3 metres | About 5 | A short run from a gate to a door. |
| 5 metres | About 8 | A side path or a route across a lawn. |
| 10 metres | About 16 | Worth pacing properly — the error compounds over a long run. |
The feet come as a left and a right, so order them in pairs. Everything else is a single shape and can be mixed however you like.
How to choose a stepping stone
Four things that actually decide it
Who is walking on it
A path to the bins and a path through a kids' garden are different briefs. The feet, the turtle and the love heart are there because somebody small is going to be using them; the tree trunks suit a path that is meant to disappear into the planting.
What goes around them
Stepping stones read best with something soft between — lawn, mulch or a fine decorative gravel. Set into a hard surface they tend to look stranded.
Spacing
Pace the route out before you come down and count your steps, rather than measuring the distance. The stones want to land where feet naturally fall, and that is a stride, not a number.
How many you need
They are sold as individual stones. Once you know your pace count you know your quantity, and it is worth buying a couple over rather than coming back for two.
What the path runs through
Stones are half of it
A stepping stone path is stones and whatever sits between them. That in-between is what makes it look finished, and it is usually the cheaper half.
