Will manure burn my plants?

Not what we sell. Fresh manure is far too strong to put straight on a bed, which is exactly why everything here is composted and screened first. Keep it clear of the stems of young plants anyway, and water it in after spreading.

What is the difference between sheep and blended manure?

Sheep manure is a single manure — high nitrogen, balanced potassium, low phosphorus, and the gentler of the two. The Multi-Mix blend adds cow and chicken, which makes it richer and better suited to shrubs, trees and lawns. The chicken component is what brings the extra nitrogen and the extra phosphate.

How much manure do I need?

That depends on the product and what you are feeding, and the rates differ enough that we would rather work it out with you. Bring the area of the bed in square metres, or the number of trees or roses, and someone will do the sum at the counter.

Is manure safe to handle?

Bagged manure contains live micro-organisms, which is the point of it. Wear gloves, keep the material moist so it does not raise dust, wear a mask if it does, and wash your hands when you have finished.

Do you sell manure in bulk?

Yes — our sheep and cow manure is sold loose by the cubic metre for bigger jobs, and it is a different product to the bagged lines here. Tell us the area you are feeding and we will price both ways.

Can I collect manure myself?

Yes, seven days, and the bags fit in a boot. For a bulk load the loader fills your trailer or ute directly, and every customer gets two hours of our trailers free if you have not got one.

How much manure do you need?

It goes on thin, and it goes on often

Manure is a top dressing, not a mulch layer. About 25mm worked into the surface is what a bed wants, which is far less than most people load into the trailer.

None of the three prints an application rate, so rather than invent one, these are simply what a bag covers at that depth.

How to choose a manure

Four things that actually decide it

What you are feeding
Vegetables, roses and lawns will take the richer blend. Azaleas, camellias, ferns and Australian natives will not. That is the first question at the counter and it decides the bag.
How strong you want it
Chicken manure is the hot, fast nitrogen; cow is bulky organic matter; sheep sits between the two. A blend feeds quickly and keeps feeding, and a straight sheep manure is the gentler, slower version of the same idea.
Composted, not fresh
Everything here has been composted and screened before it reaches the yard, so the nitrogen releases slowly enough to feed rather than burn. If you are ever offered raw manure out of a paddock, give it several months before it goes near a garden.
Organic matter, not just nutrient
In sand the bulk does as much work as the feed does. Composted manure increases humus, improves structure and slows water down so it penetrates instead of running off. That part builds up over seasons.
