Multi-Mix Blended Manure

Three manures. Not near the natives.

GO Organics Multi-Mix is a blend of matured sheep, cow and chicken manure, pulverised so it spreads cleanly, in 30 litre bags. The pack describes it as rich in humus, nitrogen, phosphate and potassium — which is the reason it is the strong one, and the reason it must be kept away from azaleas, camellias, ferns and Australian natives.

What Multi-Mix Blended Manure suits

What can you use Multi-Mix Blended Manure for?

  • Vegetable gardens and raised beds

A worked-out veggie bed is the job this is best at. Vegetables are hungry, they are not fussy about phosphate, and the chicken component gives them the nitrogen they want.

  • Roses and hungry flowering shrubs

Exotic flowering plants take a strong feed happily. Spread out from the stem and water it in well.

  • Fruit trees

Out to the drip line rather than against the trunk. Fruit trees feed from the outer roots and carrying a crop takes a lot out of them.

  • Building beds up in sand

The humus is what changes sandy ground. Structure, aeration and water penetration all improve, and those stay improved after the feed is gone.

How many bags?

Thirty litres, about 1.2 square metres

Manure goes on thin — about 25mm worked into the surface — so a 30 litre bag covers roughly 1.2 square metres. With a strong blend that restraint matters more, not less.

The pack does not print an application rate, so this is the arithmetic of the volume at that depth rather than a manufacturer figure.

Multi-Mix Blended Manure in Perth

Phosphate and Western Australian natives

Banksias, grevilleas, hakeas and their relatives evolved on some of the most phosphorus-poor soil on earth, and they take up phosphate so efficiently that a normal garden dose poisons them. The symptoms show up weeks later as blackened leaf tips and dieback, by which point the cause is easy to miss.

That is why the caution on this bag is worth more than the usual small print. If your garden is a mix of exotics and natives — which describes a great many Perth gardens — feed the exotics with this and keep a native food for the rest. We stock both, and it is a two minute conversation at the counter.

Why Multi-Mix Blended Manure

Why choose Multi-Mix Blended Manure?

  • Three manures, one bag

Sheep, cow and chicken. The feed is broader than any single manure gives you, and it comes on quickly and then keeps going.

  • Pulverised, so it spreads cleanly

Nothing to break up by hand and nothing left sitting in lumps on the surface. On a bed or a lawn that is the difference between a feed and a mess.

  • It changes how sand handles water

More humus means better structure and aeration, and water that penetrates instead of running off. Less of your watering ends up in the street.

  • Real nitrogen for a hungry bed

The chicken component is what makes this the strong one. Where a gentle manure has stopped making a difference, this still will.

Using Multi-Mix Blended Manure

How to use Multi-Mix Blended Manure

  1. Check what is planted there first

This is the one product on this page where the plant decides. Azaleas, camellias, ferns and Australian natives get something else — ask us for a native plant food and we will sort you out.

  2. Spread evenly, keep it off the stems

Work it into the top of the soil and keep it clear of trunks and stems. A strong manure banked against a stem is how a healthy plant gets damaged.

  3. Water it in well

Straight after spreading, and more thoroughly than you would a gentle manure. It moves the nutrient down to the roots and away from the surface.

  4. Do not overdo it

Thirty litres covers about 1.2 square metres at the right depth. Twice as much is not twice the feed, it is a bed that has to be flushed.

When to choose something else

When it is the wrong product

  • NOT for azaleas, camellias, ferns or Australian native plants. The bag itself describes the blend as rich in phosphate, and phosphate is what kills banksias, grevilleas and their relatives. Ask us for a native plant food instead.
  • It is the strong one. Around seedlings and young plants, the sheep manure is the safer choice.
  • It is a feed, not a soil. It goes on or through a bed; it does not fill one.
  • This product contains micro-organisms. Wear gloves, keep it moist while you handle it, wear a mask if it is dusty, and wash your hands afterwards.

What people say

Multi-Mix Blended Manure questions

Multi-Mix Blended Manure FAQs

  • What is in blended manure?

Matured sheep, cow and chicken manure, pulverised so it spreads cleanly. Each brings something different — chicken the fast nitrogen, cow the bulk and organic matter, sheep the middle ground.

  • Can I use it on natives?

No. The bag describes the blend as rich in phosphate, and phosphate is what damages banksias, grevilleas and their relatives. Ask us for a native plant food instead.

  • Why not on azaleas and camellias?

They are acid-loving plants and a strong, phosphate-rich manure is the wrong feed for them. Ferns are the same. Tell us what you are growing and we will point you at something suitable.

  • Is it stronger than sheep manure?

Yes. The chicken component brings real nitrogen, which is what makes it the choice for a genuinely hungry bed and the wrong choice around seedlings.

  • How much does a bag cover?

About 1.2 square metres spread at 25mm and worked into the top of the soil. Measure the bed first — it goes less far than people expect.

  • Will it help sandy soil?

Yes, and that is half the point of it. The humus improves structure and aeration and slows water down so it penetrates the soil rather than running off it.

  • Do I need gloves?

Yes. It contains micro-organisms — wear gloves, keep it moist while you handle it so it does not raise dust, wear a mask if it does, and wash your hands afterwards.

  • Can it be delivered?

Yes, across Perth's southern suburbs. Tell us how many bags and the address, and confirm the current delivery cost when you order.
