Soil Solver Rock Minerals
Finely crushed rock, for the elements sand has none of.
Soil Solver Rock Minerals is finely crushed blended rock including volcanic basalt dust, in 15kg bags. It corrects trace element deficiencies — calcium, magnesium, potassium, sulphur, manganese, iron, zinc, copper, cobalt, molybdenum and boron, all listed on the bag — at a straightforward 1kg per square metre.

Real stock, not a swatch. Blended products vary a little batch to batch, so treat these as a guide rather than an exact colour match.

What Soil Solver Rock Minerals suits
What can you use Soil Solver Rock Minerals for?
General garden, everywhere
One kilogram per square metre across a garden is the base rate. It is a broad correction rather than a targeted treatment.
Vegetables and fruit trees
Soil Solver say more than the general rate for both, because a cropping bed exports minerals with every harvest.
Adding to home compost
Their own suggestion. Minerals in the compost heap end up in the compost, which is a good way to get them into a bed.
Banana clumps
Ten kilograms or more into the top 15cm over 2m², which is the one heavy-feeding case the manufacturer calls out specifically.
How much Rock Minerals do you need?
A bag does about fifteen square metres
One kilogram per square metre is the general garden rate, so the arithmetic is unusually simple: a 15kg bag treats about 15 square metres.
Vegetables, fruit trees and banana clumps all want more than the general rate. Those figures are the manufacturer's own.
| Where | Rate | In bags |
|---|---|---|
| General garden | 1kg/m² | One 15kg bag to about 15m². |
| Vegetables and fruit trees | More than the general rate | Soil Solver do not put a number on it — tell us the bed and we will ask them. |
| A banana clump | 10kg or more over about 2m² | Worked into the top 15cm. Two thirds of a bag per clump. |
Work it into the surface and water it in — rock dust left dry on top does very little. It is cumulative rather than fast: it corrects deficiencies over seasons, and anything promising a result in a fortnight is a fertiliser, not a mineral.
Why Soil Solver Rock Minerals
Why choose Soil Solver Rock Minerals?
It fixes deficiencies fertiliser cannot
NPK is not the whole story. A bed short of zinc or boron will not respond to more nitrogen, and that is the failure this product is for.
Eleven elements, on the bag
Calcium, magnesium, potassium, sulphur, manganese, iron, zinc, copper, cobalt, molybdenum, boron. Listed by the manufacturer rather than implied.
It builds soil life
Minerals are what soil biology works with. Soil Solver frame it as building a habitat for micro-organisms and fungi rather than as feeding plants directly.
River and earth friendly
Crushed rock, and their own claim. It does not run off and cause the problems a soluble fertiliser can.

Using Soil Solver Rock Minerals
How to use Soil Solver Rock Minerals
Spread at 1kg per square metre
That is the general garden rate. Vegetables and fruit trees want more — ask at the counter for the bed you have in mind.
Work it into the surface and water in
Rock dust needs contact with moist soil and biology to become available. Left dry on the surface it does very little.
Be patient with it
This is a cumulative product. It corrects deficiencies over seasons rather than greening a bed up in a fortnight, and anything claiming otherwise is a fertiliser.
Add some to the compost heap
Soil Solver's own suggestion, and a good one — minerals in the heap end up spread evenly through the finished compost.
When to choose something else
When it is the wrong product
- It is not a fertiliser. There is no meaningful NPK here, so a hungry bed still needs feeding. This corrects what fertiliser cannot.
- It is slow. Rock minerals become available over seasons as biology works on them, which is a feature for soil building and a frustration if you wanted a result this month.
- It does not help sand hold anything. Minerals applied to pure sand wash through with the water. Clay first, or at least alongside.
- Rock dust is dusty. Wear a mask when you are spreading it, particularly on a windy day.
