Brickies Lite
A cream joint, without dosing oxide.
Brickies Lite is Cockburn Creme cement pre-blended with Hylime in a 17.85kg bag, giving a cream mortar rather than a grey one. You add sand and water. Like Brickies Grey it is classified AS3700 M3, so it is not permitted for external brickwork within a kilometre of the coast, where the code requires M4.

Real stock, not a swatch. Blended products vary a little batch to batch, so treat these as a guide rather than an exact colour match.

What Brickies Lite suits
What can you use Brickies Lite for?
Face brickwork on show
The reason to pay for cream. Where the joint is part of the look, a consistent cream reads deliberate in a way that oxide-dosed mortar rarely manages.
Cream and light-toned joints
Against limestone, cream brick or a pale render, a grey joint reads cold. This is the mortar that matches them.
Blockwork and general bedding
It lays like the grey does. If the rest of the job is cream there is no reason to switch bags for the bedding courses.
Pointing and repointing
Matching existing cream joints on a repair. Bring a piece of the old mortar to the counter if you can — sand changes the tone as much as cement does.
How much mortar?
Count it in mixer loads
Brickies Lite is batched by the bag rather than by the cubic metre — 17.85kg, the same size as the grey and sized for a standard mixer load.
How much sand goes with each bag depends on the mortar class you are building, so it is printed on the pack. Tell us what you are laying and we will work the sand out with you at the counter.
| Pack | Size | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Brickies Lite | 17.85kg bag | One standard mixer load. Add sand and water for a cream joint. |
| Sand per bag | Printed on the pack | Varies with the mortar class — and the sand sets half the colour. |
| Matching an existing joint | Bring a sample | Tone comes from cement and sand together. A description is not enough to match on. |
AS3700 M3. Not permitted for external brickwork within a kilometre of the coast, where the code requires M4. And it is not a concrete cement — it does not go in slabs or footings.
Brickies Lite in Perth
The coastal kilometre applies here too
Brickies Lite is AS3700 M3, exactly as the grey is, so the same limit applies: the masonry code does not allow M3 for external brickwork within a kilometre of the coast, and a good deal of Perth is inside that band.
It is worth saying plainly, because cream mortar and limestone are a Perth combination and limestone is a coastal material. If the wall is going up near the water, the route to a compliant cream mortar is Cockburn Creme cement, brickies sand and Hylime blended to M4. Ask us and we will go through it.
Why Brickies Lite
Why choose Brickies Lite?
Cream without dosing anything
The colour is in the Cockburn Creme cement. Nothing to buy alongside it, nothing to measure, and no drift between the first batch and the last.
The lime is already right
Creme cement and Hylime proportioned in the bag, so the mortar behaves the same on the trowel in every mix.
Sized for a standard mixer
17.85kg bags, the same size as the grey, so the batching routine does not change if you run both on a job.
A named classification
AS3700 M3 — which tells you where it belongs and, just as usefully, where it does not.

Using Brickies Lite
How to use Brickies Lite
Check the distance to the coast first
M3 is not permitted for external brickwork within a kilometre of the water; the code calls for M4 there. Ask us before you order if the job is anywhere near it.
Pick the sand at the same time
Half the colour of a cream joint is the sand. A yellow sand under creme cement is not the same mortar as a pale one, so settle both together and buy enough at once.
Batch by the bag, dry mix first
One bag to a standard mixer load, blend through the sand dry, then bring the water in. Sand quantity is on the pack and depends on the mortar you want.
Do not change anything mid-wall
A different sand, a different ratio or a different bag halfway up will show in the joints for the life of the brickwork. On a face wall that is the whole ballgame.
When to choose something else
When it is the wrong product
- It is NOT a concrete cement. It does not go in a slab, a footing or any concrete work.
- M3 is not suitable for external brickwork within a kilometre of the coast, where the masonry code requires M4. Creme cement, sand and Hylime blends to M4 instead.
- There is no sand in the bag. For add-water-only, that is the Creme Mortar Pre-Mix.
- Cream is not white, and the sand will move the tone. If the joint has to match something existing, bring a sample rather than working from a description.
- Wet cement and lime burn skin, and the burns are delayed so people often do not notice at the time. The dry dust contains crystalline silica. Gloves, eye protection and a P2 mask, every time.
