Aalborg White Cement

When cream is not white enough.

Aalborg White is a true white portland cement in 20kg bags, classified AS3972 Type GP. The colour comes from very pure limestone and finely ground sand rather than from pigment, which is what removes the need to add white oxide to premium-white grouts and renders. Made by Aalborg Portland in Malaysia and distributed in WA by Cockburn.

What Aalborg White Cement suits

What can you use Aalborg White Cement for?

  • Premium white grout

The job it is best known for. A white grout mixed on white cement stays white instead of settling to grey once it dries.

  • White and light renders

Where a cream would read too warm and grey is out of the question entirely.

  • Feature and decorative concrete

Benches, exposed panels, anything where the concrete itself is the finish rather than the substrate under one.

  • Coloured work needing a white base

A pigment over grey comes out muddied. Over white it comes out the colour it was mixed to, which is why coloured mortars and grouts are specified this way.

Which bag, and how it is sold

Sold by the bag, not by the metre

White cement comes in one size, so the question is only how many bags — and on grout or a feature finish, buy them in one order.

How much sand goes with a bag depends on the grout or the render, so it is on the pack rather than here. Ask at the counter if the finish is specified rather than chosen.

Why Aalborg White Cement

Why choose Aalborg White Cement?

  • Genuinely white, not pale grey

The colour is in the raw materials. There is no oxide that can be underdosed, and no batch that comes out darker than the one before it.

  • No white oxide to buy

It removes a purchase, a measurement and a source of variation from every batch — which on grout across a whole floor is the difference between a finish and a patchwork.

  • It holds a colour honestly

Pigment on a white base reads as the tone it was chosen as. Pigment on grey reads as a duller version of it.

  • Still a general purpose cement

AS3972 Type GP. You are buying a cement that happens to be white, not a decorative product that behaves unlike cement.

Using Aalborg White Cement

How to use Aalborg White Cement

  1. Keep white materials away from grey ones

A mixer, a wheelbarrow or a bucket that had grey cement in it will tint a white batch, and it does not take much. Clean the tools out first or keep a separate set.

  2. Use a light sand

White cement with a yellow sand makes a cream mortar. If the finish is meant to be white, the sand has to be pale too — bring the render or grout spec to the counter and we will match one to it.

  3. Follow the bag for the ratio

The right mix depends on the sand and the finish, so no ratio is printed here. Read the bag, or ask before you start rather than after the first wall.

  4. Keep it damp while it cures

As with any cement. Strength comes over days and it needs moisture to get there, and white work dried out too fast is prone to crazing where every hairline shows.

When to choose something else

When it is the wrong product

  • It costs more than grey or cream, and it comes in one size. For anything that is going to be painted or is out of sight, it is money spent on a colour nobody will see.
  • White shows everything. Contamination from a dirty mixer, a dark sand or a splash of grey mortar is visible in a way it never is on a grey finish.
  • It is a binder, not a mix. The sand and the water are still yours, and on white work the sand choice matters as much as the cement.
  • Wet cement and lime burn skin, and the burns are delayed so people often do not notice at the time. The dry dust contains crystalline silica. Gloves, eye protection and a P2 mask, every time.

What people say

Aalborg White Cement questions

Aalborg White Cement FAQs

  • Why is white cement white?

Because of what it is made from. Very pure limestone and finely ground sand, without the iron and manganese that colour ordinary cement. The white is in the material, not in a pigment.

  • Can I just add white oxide to grey cement instead?

It will lift grey toward pale, but it will not make it white, and every batch has to be dosed the same or the finish bands. For genuinely white work this is the cheaper answer in the end.

  • Is it as strong as ordinary cement?

It carries the same classification, AS3972 Type GP. It is a general purpose cement that happens to be white, not a decorative additive.

  • What sand should I use with it?

A pale one. White cement with a yellow sand gives a cream mortar, which defeats the purpose. Bring the spec to the counter and we will match a sand to it.

  • Do I need a clean mixer?

Yes, and it matters more than people expect. Grey residue in a mixer, a barrow or a bucket will tint a white batch and it shows.

  • What size bags do you have?

Twenty kilograms, and that is the only size it comes in.

  • Do I need protective gear?

Yes. White cement is still cement — wet mixes are caustic, they burn skin, and the burns show up hours after the contact. Gloves, eye protection, and a P2 mask for the dust.

  • Can it be delivered?

Yes, across Perth's southern suburbs. Tell us how many bags and the address, and confirm the current delivery cost when you order.
