Under pale paving
Cream base under cream paving. The joints stay looking clean instead of slowly reading darker.
Under artificial turf
Screeded flat, it gives synthetic grass the even plane it needs. Every bump underneath shows through and stays showing.
Pathways
Compacted on its own it makes a firm, pale walking surface with a soft natural look.
Sustainability-led projects

How to use Eco-Fines (Cream)
Sort the structural base first
Eco-Fines beds and levels. Anything carrying load wants a compacted road base or crushed limestone underneath it.
Work out the volume
Length by width by depth in metres. A bedding layer is thin — usually 20 to 30mm under pavers — so the figure is smaller than it feels.
Screed rather than rake
Rails and a straight edge. Raking gets you close, and close is not flat when a paver has to sit on it.
Wet it and compact it
Damp material compacts properly where dry material never quite does. Firm it before the surface goes on.
When to choose something else
When it is the wrong product
- It is not a structural base. It levels and beds; the load-carrying layer under a driveway is road base or crushed limestone.
- It is recycled, so the colour varies a little between batches. Worth knowing if you are matching an area laid last year.
- Crushed brick fines are still brick. It is fine under a surface and it is not what you would use where bare feet or small children are directly on it.
- It sheds water off a compacted surface rather than letting it through. For actual drainage, clean stone is the material.
