Adbri Rapid Set

Set in fifteen minutes. Not for load.

Adbri Rapid Set is a quick setting concrete mix in a 20kg bag — cement, sand, aggregate and additives — that sets within fifteen minutes. The bag lists non-structural poles and posts, and that word NON-STRUCTURAL is the most important thing on this page.

What Adbri Rapid Set suits

What can you use Adbri Rapid Set for?

  • Clotheslines

The archetypal use. One post, one bag, done before lunch.

  • Letterboxes

Small, freestanding, carrying nothing but itself.

  • Sign and fence posts

A run of posts where the speed genuinely saves you a day of propping and waiting.

  • Non-structural poles

The bag's own wording. If the pole is holding a roof rather than a washing line, get advice first.

How many bags of Rapid Set?

Dig one hole and measure it

Post holes vary more than people expect, so the honest answer is to dig the first one, see what it takes, and buy for the rest on that. The yield is printed on the pack if you would rather do the arithmetic.

If the sum comes to more than a handful of bags, the job is probably not a post job — and if it is structural, it is the wrong product entirely.

JobRoughlyWorth knowing
A standard fence post holeOne to two bagsDig one and measure it before you buy for the run.
A run of ten postsTen to twenty bagsWork in batches — fifteen minutes is not long once you start.
Anything carrying loadNoneWrong product. Use the General Purpose mix.

Use the water quantity printed on the bag — exceeding it is the usual reason a post moves a year later. Wet cement and lime burn skin, and the burns are delayed so people often do not notice at the time. The dry dust contains crystalline silica. Gloves, eye protection and a P2 mask, every time.

Why Adbri Rapid Set

Why choose Adbri Rapid Set?

  • Sets within fifteen minutes

No propping, no bracing, no coming back tomorrow. For a post that is a genuinely different way of working.

  • Dry in, water on, let go

Stand the post, pour the dry mix around it and wet it down. No mixer, no barrow, no cleanup.

  • One bag does most posts

20kg, single bags or by the pallet. Dig one hole and you will know what your run needs.

  • Same materials, different formulation

Cement, sand and aggregate with additives. It is not a lesser material, it is a faster one with a narrower job.

Using Adbri Rapid Set

How to use Adbri Rapid Set

  1. Check the job is not structural first

If anything is being held up by it, stop and use the General Purpose mix. This is the step people skip.

  2. Stand the post and pour dry around it

The usual method: post in, dry mix around it, then water. Read the bag for the variant you have.

  3. Use the water quantity on the bag

It is printed there. Measure it rather than eyeball it — extra water is the main way people end up with a weak set.

  4. Work fast

Fifteen minutes is not long. Have everything ready before you add water rather than mixing and then looking for the level.

When to choose something else

When it is the wrong product

  • It is NON-STRUCTURAL. That is the bag's own word. Footings, slabs, beams and anything carrying load want the General Purpose mix.
  • Fifteen minutes is not much time. If you are new to it, do one post and see how it goes rather than mixing enough for six.
  • Water quantity is on the bag and going over it is the most common way to end up with a post that moves in a year.
  • Wet cement and lime burn skin, and the burns are delayed so people often do not notice at the time. The dry dust contains crystalline silica. Gloves, eye protection and a P2 mask, every time.

What people say

Adbri Rapid Set questions

Adbri Rapid Set FAQs

  • Can I use rapid set for a footing?

No. The bag says non-structural. Footings, slabs, beams and anything carrying load want the General Purpose Concrete instead.

  • How fast does it actually set?

Within fifteen minutes. That means having everything ready — post plumb, level to hand — before you add water rather than after.

  • How much water do I add?

The quantity is printed on the bag. Measure it rather than eyeball it, because going over is the most common way to weaken a set.

  • How many bags for a post hole?

Most post holes are one to two bags, but holes vary a lot. Dig the first one, see what it takes, and buy for the rest on that.

  • What is it actually for?

Non-structural poles and posts — clotheslines, letterboxes, sign posts, fence posts. Freestanding things that carry nothing but themselves, where setting in fifteen minutes saves you a day.

  • Is it weaker than normal concrete?

It is formulated for speed rather than for load, and the bag classes it as non-structural. That is a different statement from weak, but for your purposes it means the same thing: do not build on it.

  • Do I need protective gear?

Yes. Wet concrete burns skin and the burns are delayed. The dust contains crystalline silica. Gloves, eye protection and a P2 mask.

  • Can it be delivered?

Yes, across Perth's southern suburbs. Tell us how many bags and the address, and confirm the current delivery cost when you order.
