What can you use Concrete Mix for?
Footings
Strip and pad footings where you are mixing on site. One material into the mixer instead of two, proportioned consistently every batch.
Small slabs
Shed floors, pergola bases, a pad for a bin store. Big enough that bagged concrete gets expensive, small enough that a truck is not worth it.
Fence and post work
Where you are setting a run of posts and want a consistent mix rather than a boot full of bags.
General concrete around the home
Paths, steps, repairs — the jobs where you know roughly what you are doing and just want the materials to be right.
How much Concrete Mix
How much Concrete Mix do you need?
Length by width by depth, all in metres, gives you cubic metres. For a bed 4m by 1.2m filled to 75mm, that is 4 × 1.2 × 0.075 = 0.36 m³.
It is an estimate. Uneven ground and how firmly the mix settles both change what you actually use, so round up rather than down. We have not published a recommended depth for this product — describe the bed at the counter and someone who works with it every day will tell you.

Consistent proportions, every batch
The stone-to-sand ratio is already set. Mixing your own from two piles means guessing that ratio with a shovel, and the guess drifts as the day goes on.
The sand is washed
Clay and silt in the sand weaken concrete. Washed concrete sand is the right material for a pour, and it is not the same thing as a general fill sand.
One material to buy and store
One pile on the driveway instead of two, one delivery instead of two, and no working out how much of each you need.
Loose, so it scales
Past a few post holes, bagged concrete gets expensive fast. Buying loose is what makes a real slab affordable.

Collect from the yard
Open seven days at 222 Barrington St, Bibra Lake. The loader puts it straight into your trailer or ute, and someone will tell you whether what you have brought will carry the load.
Borrow one of our trailers free for two hours to get your load home. No charge, no bond.
Have it delivered
Across Perth's southern suburbs, seven days. For a quote we need the address, how much you need, and anything awkward about access — tight driveways, low branches and side access all change which truck we send. Confirm the current cost when you order.

Using Concrete Mix
How to use Concrete Mix
Work out the volume of the pour
Length by width by depth, all in metres, gives you cubic metres of finished concrete. The calculator further down does it. Order a little over — running short mid-pour is worse than having some left.
Add cement and water
Add the cement to the mix and water to the consistency the job wants. Tell us the job at the counter and we will tell you what cement and roughly what proportion.
Pour, compact and finish
Work the concrete into the corners and compact out the air. Air voids are where a slab fails, and they are invisible until it does.
Keep it damp while it cures
Concrete gains its strength over days, not hours, and it needs moisture to do it. A slab poured in a Perth summer and left to dry in the sun is a weaker slab.
When to choose something else
When it is the wrong product
- It is not a drainage material. The sand in it fills the gaps that a drainage layer relies on — Blue Metal on its own is the one for a soak well.
- It is not the bagged concrete. The 20kg bags on the concrete bags page are pre-blended WITH cement and need only water; this needs cement added. Two different products with similar names, so check which you are after.
- It is not a compactable base. It is an aggregate for mixing, not a material to spread and roll under paving.
- Wet concrete is caustic and burns skin, and the burns are delayed so people do not notice at the time. Gloves, eye protection and a P2 mask against the dust.
