Richgro Garden Lime
For soil that has gone sour.
Richgro Garden Lime is a natural soil sweetener in a 10kg bag. It corrects soil acidity and raises pH, which unlocks nutrients already in the ground and gives you stronger plants and lawns. It adds calcium; it does not add magnesium.

Real stock, not a swatch. Blended products vary a little batch to batch, so treat these as a guide rather than an exact colour match.

What Richgro Garden Lime suits
What can you use Richgro Garden Lime for?
Vegetable beds
Brassicas and legumes in particular. Both want a soil closer to neutral than most Perth beds sit at.
Tired lawns
Years of heavy feeding pushes a lawn's soil acid. Lime is often what a lawn wants before it wants more fertiliser.
Beds that have quietly stalled
Growth slowing with no pest, no disease and no obvious cause is the classic pH symptom.
Working in before planting
Lime is slow. Working it through a bed before planting beats spreading it around plants already in the ground.
How much garden lime?
Test first, then spread thinly
Lime rate depends on how acid the soil is and what you are growing, which is why the honest answer starts with a pH test rather than a table.
As a rule it is spread far more thinly than compost or manure. If you are about to empty a bag onto one bed, stop and check.
| Situation | Roughly | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| You have not tested | Nothing yet | Test. A kit is a few dollars and it decides whether you need lime at all. |
| A mildly acid vegetable bed | A light even scatter | Work it through before planting, water it in, and retest in a season. |
| A lawn fed hard for years | A light even scatter | Often what the lawn actually wanted instead of more fertiliser. |
| Soil already alkaline | None | Wrong product. Liming here makes the problem worse. |
Lime is dusty and it is an irritant. Gloves, eye protection and a mask, and spread it on a still day. Bring a pH reading to the counter and we will talk the rate through with you.
Richgro Garden Lime in Perth
Lime on Perth sand
Perth's sands drain fast and hold very little, which means calcium leaches out of them and pH drifts. A bed fed hard for a few years is a common candidate.
It also means lime does not stay put forever. Test every couple of years rather than assuming one application settled it.
Why Richgro Garden Lime
Why choose Richgro Garden Lime?
It unlocks what is already there
Cheaper than fertilising a bed that cannot use fertiliser. Fix the pH first and the feeding you have already done starts working.
Calcium, which Perth sand runs short of
Sandy soils lose calcium the same way they lose everything else — straight through. Lime puts it back while it corrects the pH.
No magnesium, which is sometimes the point
If a soil test says magnesium is already fine, plain garden lime does the pH job without adding more of it.
A 10kg bag goes a long way
Lime is spread thinly. Most home gardens are a bag rather than a pallet.

Using Richgro Garden Lime
How to use Richgro Garden Lime
Test the pH first
A cheap kit costs a few dollars. Liming a soil that is already alkaline makes things worse, and you cannot tell by looking.
Spread it thinly and evenly
Lime is not spread like compost. A light, even scatter across the area, not a heap in one spot.
Work it in and water it
Rake it through the top of the bed and water it down. Lime sitting dry on the surface does almost nothing.
Give it weeks
It moves pH slowly. Do not re-lime because nothing happened in a fortnight — test again before you add more.
When to choose something else
When it is the wrong product
- It is not a fertiliser. It changes what a plant can reach; it does not feed the plant.
- Do not lime without testing. Pushing an alkaline soil further alkaline locks up iron and manganese and causes the problem you were trying to fix.
- It works over weeks, not days. Lime before a season, not during one.
- Lime is dusty and it is an irritant to eyes, skin and lungs. Gloves, eye protection and a mask, and spread it on a still day.
