Westbuild Pave N’Lock

Sweep it in, mist it, and the joint stops moving.

Pave N’Lock is a paving joint compound in a 20kg rainproof bag. It sweeps into dry joints of 2 to 4mm, gels under a fine mist spray and cures hard as it dries, so the joint stops blowing out, washing out or being lifted by a sweeper. Westbuild rate a bag at roughly 4 to 6 square metres.

What Westbuild Pave N’Lock suits

What can you use Westbuild Pave N’Lock for?

  • Driveways and footpaths

Westbuild's first listed use. Traffic movement is exactly what loosens a sand-filled joint.

  • Courtyards and patios

Where the joints are on show and weeds in a loose joint are the thing you keep going out to pull.

  • Commercial and public paving

Recreation areas and anywhere a mobile vacuum sweeper runs, which strips a plain sand joint quickly.

  • Exposed, windy sites

Named by Westbuild for high wind areas — minimising windblown joint erosion is one of its stated advantages.

How many bags?

About 4 to 6m² a bag

Westbuild put a 20kg bag at roughly 4 to 6 square metres of paving. Where you land in that range depends on how wide the joints are and how thick the pavers are — deeper joints hold more.

Work off the lower figure. Running short in the middle of a driveway means the second half sets on a different day, and you cannot sweep the first half back out.

A single driveway40m²10 bags — or 7 with narrow joints.
A double driveway60m²15 bags — or 10 with narrow joints.

Unopened and stored dry, a bag keeps for twelve months. Do not stand them on a concrete floor and keep them out of a humid shed — both shorten that.

Westbuild Pave N’Lock in Perth

Wind, sweepers and a Perth summer

Two of Westbuild's stated uses read like a description of a Perth summer: high wind areas, and sites where mobile vacuum sweepers are used. An easterly across an exposed driveway empties a sand joint faster than any amount of traffic.

The other local catch is the timing. The pavers must be bone dry when it goes in and then need a gentle mist, which makes a settled dry spell the moment to do it — not the morning after rain, and not with a hose in the middle of a hot northerly.

Why Westbuild Pave N’Lock

Why choose Westbuild Pave N’Lock?

  • The joint stays in the joint

It gels and cures rather than sitting loose, so wind, rain and sweeping do not empty it out over the first summer.

  • No mixing and no tools

Spread it, sweep it in, mist it. There is no barrow, no gun and nothing to clean up afterwards.

  • A known coverage

Westbuild put a 20kg bag at about 4 to 6 square metres, so you can work out what a job needs before you load the car.

  • Rainproof bag, low dust

The current formulation. Both matter for something that usually gets bought a week before the weather cooperates.

Using Westbuild Pave N’Lock

How to use Westbuild Pave N’Lock

  1. Start with completely dry pavers

Westbuild are emphatic about this. Damp or wet pavers make it gel on the surface before it has been swept into the joints, and then it stains.

  2. Spread and sweep it in

Spread it evenly over the paving and sweep it into the joints. If the pavers suit it, run a plate compactor over the area to settle it right down.

  3. Sweep every bit of excess off

Remove it from the paved area completely, not just off to the side. Residue left on the surface can discolour the pavers once it gets wet, and that is the mistake people regret.

  4. Mist three or four times

A fine spray, repeated until the water has soaked through the full depth of the joint. Do not flood the area and do not blast it out of the joints with a hose.

  5. Let it dry to cure

It gels as soon as it is wet but gains its strength as it dries out. How fast depends on the weather and on how well the base drains.

When to choose something else

When it is the wrong product

  • It is for joints of 2 to 4mm. Wider joints are a different product — bring a photo and a measurement and we will tell you.
  • Not for steep inclines, and not where water runs across the joints continuously. Both wash it out before it can cure.
  • Not around swimming pool pavers or headers, and never in a structural or building application.
  • Residue left on the paver faces can stain them. Sweep the surface completely clean before the water goes anywhere near it.
  • Joints are wearing surfaces. Heavy or continuous water runoff and general traffic mean some joints will need maintenance eventually. Westbuild limit their warranty to the value of the bag.
  • It contains fine sand and cement. Wear a dust mask, keep it out of your eyes and off your skin.

What people say

Westbuild Pave N’Lock questions

Westbuild Pave N’Lock FAQs

  • What joint width does it suit?

2 to 4mm. That is Westbuild's figure and it is printed on the bag. Wider joints want a different product, so measure before you buy.

  • How much does a bag cover?

Roughly 4 to 6 square metres of paving. Joint width and paver thickness decide where you land — deeper and wider joints hold more, so plan on the lower figure.

  • Do the pavers have to be dry?

Completely. Damp pavers make the compound gel on the surface before it has been swept into the joints, which both wastes it and stains the paving.

  • Can I just hose it in?

No, and this is the step people get wrong. It needs a fine mist three or four times over, until the water has soaked the full depth of the joint. A hose washes it straight back out.

  • Will it stop weeds?

A set joint is a much harder place for a weed to establish than loose sand. It is not a herbicide, so seed that lands on top can still take hold — but the joint is no longer an open seed bed.

  • Can I use it around a pool?

No. Westbuild specifically exclude swimming pool pavers and headers, along with steep inclines and anywhere water runs across the joints continuously.
