Bulk Firewood

A winter's wood, by the load.

Seasoned, split hardwood sold loose by the load, for houses that heat with wood rather than light a fire occasionally. Hardwood burns hotter and longer than softwood, and properly dried wood makes far less smoke — which is better for the chimney as well as the room. Bring a trailer or have it delivered.

What Bulk Firewood suits

What can you use Bulk Firewood for?

  • Wood heaters and open fireplaces

The main use, and the one where the difference between seasoned hardwood and whatever was cheapest is most obvious.

  • Pizza ovens and wood-fired cooking

Hardwood holds a bed of coals, which is what a wood oven runs on. Softwood flares and dies.

  • Chimineas and outdoor fireplaces

Longer burn means fewer trips to the stack through an evening outside. Check local fire restrictions first.

  • Stocking up before winter

Buying the season's wood in one go is both cheaper and easier, and it gives the stack time to sit somewhere dry.

How much firewood?

It depends on the heater and the habit

Firewood use varies more than anything else in the yard. The same load lasts one house a season and another six weeks, depending on the appliance, the insulation and how many nights the fire goes on.

So rather than invent a rate, ring us and describe the setup. We would rather work it out with you than sell you a load you do not get through.

Why Bulk Firewood

Why choose Bulk Firewood?

  • Hotter and longer than softwood

Seasoned hardwood is denser, so it burns longer and puts out more heat. Fewer top-ups through an evening.

  • Low smoke, because it is dry

Wet wood spends its first minutes boiling off water instead of heating the room, and the smoke that makes coats your flue.

  • Split and ready

Fully split and dried, straight into the fireplace. No further seasoning, no splitting in the driveway.

  • Far cheaper by volume

This is the reason to buy in bulk. Two hours of our trailers are free if you do not have one.

Using Bulk Firewood

How to use Bulk Firewood

  1. Stack it off the ground

In a dry, ventilated spot. Air through the stack is what keeps it seasoned; wood sitting on soil under a tarp takes moisture straight back on.

  2. Bring in a day's worth

Wood stored inside for a day burns better than wood carried straight in from a cold stack, and it gives anything living in it a chance to leave outside.

  3. Kindling first, then the logs

Small pieces to get a proper flame going, then the larger ones. A cold fire loaded with big logs smoulders and smokes.

  4. Do not choke it too early

Let the fire establish before you damp it down for a slow burn. Choking it early is the most common cause of a smoky fire and a dirty flue.

When to choose something else

When it is the wrong product

  • You have to handle it. It comes off the trailer as a heap and it becomes a stack because you make it one.
  • It needs space, and dry space. Wood stacked in the weather goes backwards, and a tarp straight over a pile traps moisture in.
  • Loads vary in piece size and species mix. If you need a particular size for a small heater, say so when you order.
  • Fire restrictions apply outdoors and change through the season. Check before you light anything outside.

What people say

Bulk Firewood questions

Bulk Firewood FAQs

  • Is it ready to burn?

Yes. It is seasoned and split, so it goes straight into the fireplace or the oven with no further drying.

  • Why hardwood rather than softwood?

Density. Hardwood burns hotter and longer, so you feed the fire less often. Softwood lights easily and is gone just as quickly.

  • How should I stack it?

Off the ground, in a dry ventilated spot. Air through the stack keeps it seasoned — a tarp straight over a pile on soil traps moisture in instead.

  • How much do I need for winter?

It varies too much to answer in print. Ring us and describe the heater and how often it runs, and we will work it out with you.

  • Bulk or bags?

Bulk is far cheaper per kilo and is right for a house heating with wood. Bags suit occasional use, a fire pit, or anyone without a trailer.

  • Can I use it in a pizza oven?

Yes, and hardwood is what you want there — it holds a bed of coals rather than flaring and dying the way softwood does.

  • Do you have a trailer?

Two hours of our trailers are free, with no charge and no bond. Tell us at the counter and we will sort one out.

  • Can it be delivered?

Yes, across Perth's southern suburbs. Tell us how much and the address, and confirm the current delivery cost when you order.
